This dynamic and engaging guided walking tour will explore two recently completed examples of vibrant urban projects. The first stop of the tour will include the first phase of the Miami World Center through multiple streetscape sections, pedestrian centric promenades, and rich landscape and hardscape detailing. After a 10-minute drive, the second stop of the tour will take attendees to the creative office and exclusive retail building of 545 Wyn to experience an artful streetscape and elegant roof deck amenity.

The Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida was opened in October of 2019 and completed a $1.5B expansion that catapults the integrated resort and casino to world class status as an unrivaled gaming and entertainment destination. Complementing the 450-foot high Guitar Hotel is a state-of-the-art Hard Rock Live performance venue for 7,000 persons, an expanded and updated casino with 195,000 square feet of gaming space, a 13.5-acre pool and lagoon experience with overwater cabanas, an ultra-luxury spa and fitness center that spans 42,000 square feet, the extensive DAER nightclub and dayclub complex, more than two dozen innovative dining, lounge and entertainment options, a collection of high-end retail stores and more than 150,000 square feet of meeting space.
This course will provide an in-depth look at the design and construction of the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. The nature of the course will be a walking tour that travels through the evolution of the guest experience and the design intent and detailing for each exterior space. EDSA along with essential vendors to the construction process will provide specific details on design applications and construction means and methods ranging from stone selection and installation, pool and landscape construction and overall planning for a mega project. The course will discuss the elements of an integrated resort and dive into code issues that arose during the construction process with a focus on the Florida pool code and in comparison to other states.

Miami-Dade’s coastline and outlying barrier islands are ground zero for climate change impacts. The incorporated Cities and the County are developing plans with the Army Corps of Engineers and other Public and Private organizations to strategize how best to deal with the coming changes. On this tour we’ll see the potential future of Miami’s Infrastructure as we discuss sea-level rise, parks as resilient infrastructure, and challenges at Miami Beach’s iconic South Pointe Park.

Sketch with FLAA: A Collaborative Workshop with Professionals, Students, and Youth*

Join sketching enthusiasts for a special workshop in partnership with Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA) and The Women’s Foundation of Florida. This multifaceted workshop will provide a special opportunity for attendees to sharpen their hand sketching skills while collaborating with middle and high school students. The workshop will be a charette-like indoor atmosphere combined with an outdoor walking component at the conference hotel grounds. Sketchbooks will be provided. Bring your favorite pens and markers.
