Building a Resilient Sarasota Bay Park

February 11, 2025 | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET

The Bay is a community, city and park conservancy initiative that aspires to transform 53 acres of city-owned land into a signature public park on Sarasota Bay. This panel will present the story of The Bay – from its award-winning community-driven master planning effort to the detailed design of the site and its operations to the opening of its first 10-acres of park space. Emphasis will be on transformation of the site from gray infrastructure and parking lots to a green-blue oasis including mangrove restoration, innovative green infrastructure and post-implementation monitoring.

This session will provide Course # 13283; 1 credit – optional

Meet the Speakers:

Zachary Chrisco, PE, HASLA

Principal - Sasaki

As Sasaki’s lead civil engineer, Zach works with built design leaders and interdisciplinary teams to execute, strengthen, and innovate resilient engineering solutions. His portfolio includes some of Sasaki’s most complex site work — from the Chicago Riverwalk to the Wilmington Waterfront Park in Los Angeles. He integrates civil engineering solutions that are at once sustainable and sensitive to the design intent. Zach’s greatest motivation is to create built work that is both durable and well-loved by the client and users. He continues to refine a vision for further cultivating Sasaki’s civil engineering practice, encouraging a collaborative built work practice, and better integrating resilience and ecology into the firm’s work. Zach holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Tufts University, and is a registered civil engineer.
