Meet The Speakers:
Ian Lockwood
Ian is a Livable Transportation Engineer at Toole Design. In 2005, Ian helped define the term “Complete Streets,” an idea about inclusive design that has spread across North America. In 2009, his project, to replace the major highway project along the New Jersey Route 31 corridor with a Smart Growth project won ITE’s Project of the Year. Most recently, Ian led the development of new language regarding highway removals for the FHWA to enable people to discuss the topic more effectively. With every project he takes on, Ian works to increase cities’ social, environmental, and economic health.
Ken Ray
Ken is the Mid-Atlantic Deputy Director of Landscape Architecture. He has a broad range of experience on multimodal transportation planning and design, from complex urban design projects to large statewide and national initiatives. Ken combines more than a decade of urban design and project management experience with a master’s degree in landscape architecture and professional experience in transportation planning, equipping him to drive project success from both design and policy perspectives. Ken is passionate about creating exceptional experiences in the public realm, from streetscapes to trails, plazas to parks. He has a keen understanding of the importance of design details and how they contribute to the experiential qualities of a place.
Kristof Devastey
Kristof is a licensed Professional Engineer with more than 12 years of experience in traffic and transportation engineering. His work has placed a strong emphasis on roadway safety, livable transportation, and Complete Streets. He is also experienced in transportation planning studies and traffic operational analyses. Above all, Kristof’s passion resides in finding ways to reconcile conventional approaches to safety with Safe Systems and Complete Streets approaches.
Darryl Richard
Darryl is a
Registered Landscape Architect with over 17 years of experience in transportation
landscape architecture. Darryl serves as
a FDOT’s District One Landscape Architect and Scenic Highway Coordinator. Darryl’s areas of expertise are in roadway
landscaping, maintenance, and managing “Scenic Corridors” on State
Roadways. Darryl also has done extensive
research into the role trees play in terms of roadway safety.
