This course will stress the importance of sketching in research and analysis of local vernacular gardens, landscape architectural typologies of forms, artifacts, motifs, space relationships and how they are used to create timeless “Continuity of the Vernacular” projects. This course will also demonstrate how on and off-site research, note-taking and sketching can help to create successful Biomimicry and Biophilic designs that trigger a positive impact on our health and well-being. Case Studies include projects in Kenya; Galapagos, Australia, China; Sri Lanka, Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Dominica.

This course is will provide 1.5 Continuing Education Credit.

Meet The Speakers:

Hitesh Mehta, FASLA

Mr. Mehta has 35 years of work experience, consulted in 66 countries (spanning six continents) in the world and is a multi-International award-winning planner, designer and author. A proponent for contextual design, Hitesh’s work and research embraces biophilic design and continuity of the vernacular. He has been a FELLOW of ASLA for 12 years.

Matthew Lewis

Mr. Lewis has over 23 years of experience at LAND, EDSA, 40NORTH and Raymond Jungles and is the illustrator of the award-winning book: “Authentic Ecolodges”. The result of his creative direction (as founder of LAND) for the planning, design, and development on any architectural project is an intensely profound connection of space with place.
