    President’s Report

    To:                   ASLA Florida Members

    From:              Kevin White, President

    Date:               December 20, 2018

    Dear ASLA members,

Your Executive Committee has been hard at work this past month!   I’m truly blessed to have a full committee of overachievers working on common ground!   The collaboration of everyone in these efforts of reviewing budgets, Holiday party planning, conference planning, LARE prep course planning, portfolio review planning, LABASH planning, legislative tour planning, issuing the Conference Call for Papers; as well as reviewing a videographer contract, new website layout, and another half dozen or so items! I sincerely want to thank you all for supporting us throughout 2018.

    Advocacy:

We hosted our first Legislative Tour in Tallahassee on December 11th.  This kickoff offered us the opportunity to showcase many of the local projects designed by Landscape Architects.  The State Representatives were thrilled to see the local projects and learn more about what we do.  This event will hopefully be a catalyst for additional tours throughout the state.

    Education:

Our 2019 Conference Call for Papers was advertised on December 4th.  We will be gathering on common ground July 11-13th, 2019 at the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort in Orlando, Florida. The 2019 conference will have classes and tours focusing on several tracks, each relating to the theme for the 2019 conference: Common Ground.   I look forward to seeing all of the submittals in the New Year!

As many of you know, ASLA lost two pioneers this past year.  I offer my condolences to the friends and family of Jack Lieber, FASLA and Nathaniel Pryor Reed, Honorary ASLA.  Both of these men were extremely influential in the preservation and conservation of Florida’s unique natural systems.   I’m so thankful for all of the relationships that I’ve made throughout the years with ASLA.   In many of these relationships we have shared stories of these two men and their legacy of respect for the environment.

Have a blessed Holiday Season with all of your friends and family!

    Sincerely,

    G. Kevin White, PLA, ASLA

    2018-2019 Florida Chapter President
